Ten residents of Ward 4 have applied to be appointed to the position left vacant by the recent death of Bellingham City Council member Joan Beardsley. The Bellingham City Council is scheduled to consider these candidates and appoint an interim Ward 4 Council member at a special meeting scheduled for Wednesday, April 4.
Each candidate has been invited to make a short presentation at the April 4 meeting. Council members will then consider candidates and make nominations according to the process they approved in March (details posted below). This appointment is interim. The Ward 4 position will be up for election in the November 2007 general election. The person appointed as the result of the April 4 meeting will serve until the person elected in the general election takes office on November 27, which is the date the election results are expected to be certified.
