Bellingham's annual community celebration of the life and contributions of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be held at Noon Monday, Jan. 21 at Bellingham City Hall. The theme of this year’s celebration is “Shining the Light” and features speakers and performance by the Kulshan Chorus.

This annual celebration is a Bellingham tradition and this year is among many local events scheduled to honor Dr. King and his contributions. A Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Dr. King is remembered most for his tireless efforts in the Civil Rights Movement during the 1950s and '60s before an assassin took his life in 1968.

During its more than 20-year history the celebration has been held in a variety of locations. This year it will take place at Bellingham City Hall. It will be filmed and aired later on BTV10, check the BTV10 schedule after Jan. 21 for days and times. The video also will be posted on the City website for on-demand viewing.

This year’s celebration is sponsored by the City of Bellingham and the Kulshan Chorus. For more information, contact the Mayor’s Office at 360-778-8100.
