Climate Action Week 2022 Kickoff Event

Sep 18, 2022 , 3:00 pm 7:00 pm

Thank you to everyone who made the 2022 Kickoff Celebration a success! The event is passed now, but we encourage you to check out the work being done by the organizations who participated in the event:

The City of Bellingham partnered with the Port of Bellingham and Kulshan Brewing Co. for a free, fun, all-ages event to kick off the City’s annual ALL IN for Climate Action Week, a week of climate-themed events hosted by the Bellingham community.

Hundreds of community members joined us on Sunday, September 18 between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. to celebrate and learn more about Bellingham climate action and enjoy these activities:

  • Starting at approximately 3 p.m.:
    • Live circus act and interactive kids zone by Wren the Juggler
    • Educational booths featuring hands-on activities, including arts and crafts. Enter a prize drawing for participating in the activities!
    • Electric bike demos by Sun-E-Land Bikes
    • Face painting by Dayna Joy
    • Food trucks
    • WTA bus to walk on and practice loading bike on
  • Starting at approximately 4:15 p.m.:
    • “Community Conversations” – hear from community members about their motivations for pursuing climate action
  • Starting at approximately 5 p.m.:
    • Live music by The Walrus

This was a Toward Zero Waste event, meaning that efforts were made to reduce and properly dispose of waste at this event. There were multiple centralized waste stations with recycling, compost, and landfill disposal available and educational signage. We encouraged attendees to bring their own water bottle, reusable cutlery, and bag to the event.

Weather Considerations

This event will happen rain or shine. Please check the forecast beforehand and dress accordingly. The area can get windy. The venue has grassy areas that are great for setting up your own blanket or chairs on a nice day. There are also plenty of picnic tables to sit at in Trackside and the Portal Village area.

Accessibility

Interpretation: ASL interpretation will be available for the spoken segments of the event from 3-5 p.m., until the band begins playing.

Mobility: Please note that the majority of the venue is gravel. Efforts have been made to increase hard compacted gravel at the site, which wheelchairs can more easily navigate. Please email all-in@cob.org with questions.

Location and Directions

Travel by bike, bus, or foot: Kulshan is offering $1 off your first pint of beer if you bike, bus, or walk to the event! A bike valet service will be provided by Let’s Bike Bellingham.

Find your bike route at cob.org/bike and your bus route using the online trip planner at ridewta.com.

Travel by car: Carpooling is encouraged! Street parking is available on Granary Ave and W Laurel St. There are gravel parking lots off of each of these streets as well.
