Little Squalicum Estuary Open House (Evento a puertas abierta del estuario de Little Squalicum)

Stop by any time between 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25 for an open house to learn about the City of Bellingham’s upcoming Little Squalicum Estuary Project. The Port of Bellingham will also be at the event with information about their nearby Little Squalicum Habitat Beach Project. Spanish interpretation will be provided at the event. El miércoles 25 de mayo, entre las 6 p. m. y las 8 p. m., se celebrará un evento a puertas abiertas para conocer el próximo proyecto de la ciudad de Bellingham sobre el estuario de Little Squalicum. Location
The event will take place in room G101 in the G building at Bellingham Technical College (BTC), located at 3028 Lindbergh Avenue. Once you arrive at BTC, there will be signs posted directing you where to go. The green star on the campus map below indicates where the event is located. The red star on the map indicates where parking is.
Bus or bike: There are bus stops located near BTC. To find your bus route, use Whatcom Transportation Authority’s (WTA) online Trip Planner. You can find a map of bike routes at cob.org/bike.
Driving: To get to BTC from I-5 northbound, take exit #258 and turn left onto Bakerview Rd. Then, at the 2nd light take a left onto Bennett and follow to Marine Drive. To get to BTC from I-5 southbound, take exit 258 and turn right onto Bakerview Rd. Then at the first light, take a left onto Bennett and follow to Marine Drive.
Turn left onto Marine Drive, then turn left onto Illinois St. General parking entrance will be on your right along Illinois St. Parking areas are clearly identified as visitor parking.
Overview of Projects
Little Squalicum Estuary Project (City of Bellingham)
The City is constructing an estuary in the lower part of Little Squalicum Park where Little Squalicum Creek meets Bellingham Bay. This project improves water quality and replaces essential coastal habitat that has been lost to development. The lower park and beach area will be temporarily inaccessible during construction, June through December 2022. Planting of the site will continue through March 2023. All off-leash dog areas and trails outside of project area will remain accessible. Visit cob.org/LSE-project for more information.
Little Squalicum Habitat Beach Project (Port of Bellingham)
In the same vicinity of the Little Squalicum Estuary project will be the Port’s Little Squalicum Habitat Beach Project, which will begin construction mid-summer 2022 pending final permitting and a successful bid process. During construction, Little Squalicum Beach Park – located southeast of the Little Squalicum Estuary Project and near Mt. Baker Products – will be closed to public access. This project will improve fish habitat by removing industrial fill from historic tidelands. Proyecto del estuario de Little Squalicum (City of Bellingham)
