SUMMARY:A HOPE PROJECT
DESCRIPTION:A Hope Project was created by three teens. It is a public art installation that tells a progressive story on yard signs illustrating hope and some actions we can each take to protect planet Earth. The signs are on Lynn Street between Eldridge Ave. and Northwest Ave and will be for approximately six months. The naming of A HOPE PROJECT\, the logo and the images were all made by Sylvia\, Lilly and Raya. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA HOPE PROJECT presents ideas to protect planet Earth. You too can write your ideas or draw a picture of an invention that you think will help to fix the climate crises. Put those ideas & inventions on a postcard and mail it to someone important to you. A grandmother. An uncle. Or a senator! We’ve got postage stamps and a mailbox! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\nSigns will be posted on the length of Lynn Street between Eldridge Ave and Northwest Ave (corner of Yeager’s). \n\n\n\nContact\n\n\n\nFrom A Child’s Point of ViewEmail: fromchildspointofview@gmail.com \n\n\n\nPrize Drawing/Event Feedback\n\n\n\nReceive a prize drawing entry for up to five events you attend during Climate Action Week! There will be a discussion panel immediately following this 90-minute film. \n\n\n\n\nFilm Synopsis\n“When Jennifer Abbott lost her sister to cancer\, her sorrow opened her up to the profound gravity of climate breakdown. Abbott’s new documentary\, The Magnitude of All Things\, draws intimate parallels between the experiences of grief—both personal and planetary. Stories from the frontlines of climate change merge with recollections from the filmmaker’s childhood on Ontario’s Georgian Bay. What do these stories have in common? The answer\, surprisingly\, is everything. \n\n\n\nFor the people featured\, climate change is not happening in the distant future: it is kicking down the front door. Battles waged\, lamentations of loss and raw testimony coalesce into an extraordinary tapestry\, woven together with raw emotion and staggering beauty that transform darkness into light\, grief into action.” \n\n\n\nView the trailer here. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore About the Panelists: \n\n\n\nRev. SUMMARY:Pom Poko Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Pickford Film Center presents Pom Poko\, directed by one of the two founders of Studio Ghibli\, Takahata Isao\, who has also directed Only Yesterday\, Grave of the Fireflies\, and The Tale of Princess Kaguya\, among other films. Pom Poko concerns a group of tanuki\, often translated as “raccoon dogs.” These are animals native to Japan who have appeared in folklore and children’s songs for hundreds of years\, in which they are reputed to have shape-shifting powers similar to fox spirits. \n\n\n\nIn this film\, a group of tanuki near Tokyo decide to combat the encroaching suburbanization of their habitat in some very direct – and fanciful – ways. The result is highly entertaining for young and old while also being one of the strongest environmental parables from an animation studio that has always been concerned with the natural world and our place in it. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\nTickets for this 1:45 p.m. showing of Pom Poko on Saturday\, September 24 can be purchased on the Pickford’s website. \n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\nPickford Film Center1318 Bay StreetBellingham\, WA 98225 \n\n\n\nContact\n\n\n\nEmail: info@pickfordfilmcenter.org Phone: (360) 647-1300 \n\n\n\nPrize Drawing/Event Feedback\n\n\n\nReceive a prize drawing entry for up to five events you attend during Climate Action Week!
