SUMMARY:Pedestrian Master Plan Open House
DESCRIPTION:The City of Bellingham is seeking public input on community needs to improve walking as a mode of transportation throughout Bellingham. All those that live\, work or visit Bellingham are invited to the Pedestrian Master Plan Update open house on Wednesday\, June 1 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. \n\n\n\nThe update of the Pedestrian Master Plan will identify further steps for creating a safe\, well connected and attractive environment for people of all ages and abilities to walk for enjoyment\, exercise and daily transportation. Since the development of the Plan\, many things have changed; numerous pedestrian projects have been completed\, the population of Bellingham has grown\, and the needs and priorities of the community have changed. Public feedback is essential to creating an updated plan that reflects the community’s needs and interests. \n\n\n\nThe open house will have stations where you can provide feedback on how you would like to see the pedestrian network grow. There will also be opportunities to learn about the process of updating the existing Pedestrian Master Plan and how the pedestrian network has grown since the adoption of the 2012 Pedestrian Master Plan. Short presentations will take place at 6:20 p.m. and 7:20 p.m.\, stop in anytime between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. \n\n\n\nSpanish and ASL interpretation will be provided. The whole family is welcome\, kid-friendly activities will be available. \n\n\n\n\n\nThis event will be held in the gymnasium at Shuksan Middle School at 2717 Alderwood Avenue. \n\n\n\nAlternative transportation options are encouraged. Shuksan Middle School is near a Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA) bus line; to find a bus route use the WTA online trip Planner. The middle school is also accessible via bike routes\, you can use the bike route map to plan your trip at cob.org/bike. \n\n\n\nAdditional Feedback Opportunities\n\n\n\nVisit the Engage Bellingham Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan Updates page to ask questions or provide feedback through the interactive webmap and survey. Public input on pedestrian improvements will be accepted through July 1\, 2022. \n\n\n\nThe Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plans are both being updated from Spring 2022 through Summer 2023. The update process begins with a focus on the Pedestrian Master Plan\, followed by the Bicycle Master Plan in the fall of 2022. Additional opportunities for community engagement will continue during the bicycle discovery phase and once drafts of the plans have been produced. \n\n\n\nTimeline \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTimeframeTaskPublic Engagement OpportunitiesSpring and Summer 2022Discovery: Research policies\, analyze the pedestrian network\, and hear from the communityShare your thoughts through the live survey and at an open houseFall 2022Ped Plan Development: Develop an updated pedestrian plan including proposed recommendationsLearn more and share your feedback at an open houseFall and Winter 2022Discovery: Research policies\, analyze the bicycle networkWinter 2022Bike Plan Development: Hear from the community and develop an updated bicycle plan including proposed recommendationsShare your thoughts through the live survey and at an open houseSpring 2023Stakeholder Review: City-wide committees review the plansLearn more and share your feedback at an open house Summer 2023Plan Adoption: Updated plans are adopted\n\n\n\nPlease visit cob.org/pbmp2022 to learn more and access all input opportunities.
