With the help of 67 wonderful people, we were able to restore some stream-side habitat in beautiful Cornwall Park at our Community Work Party hosted in partnership with @nooksack.salmon.
We braved the steady drizzle of rain this past Saturday and removed 10 yd³ of invasive plants, planted 98 native plants, and spread 7 yd³ of mulch!
Thanks to NSEA for coordinating the delicious donated coffee from @tonyscoffee and bagels from @bellinghambagelry! ☕ ♥️
Our stewardship efforts at Cornwall Park will go far in restoring this important riparian area along Squalicum Creek. Did you know that "Squalicum" is an indigenous expression meaning "place of dog salmon?" This creek supports species of salmon that include Pink, Chum, Coho, and resident sea-run cutthroat trout. 🐟
Are you ready for another work party this next Saturday? Come help us close unsanctioned social trails within Hundred Acre Wood! We will be planting native plants, spreading woody debris, and focusing our efforts around to restore some important and sensitive wetland habitat in partnership with the @whatcomlandtrust.
