SUMMARY:Earth Day Recycling Event
DESCRIPTION:Clear your clutter and reduce your environmental impact for Earth Day! The City of Bellingham is partnering with Sanitary Service Company (SSC)\, Recycling & Disposal Services Inc. (RDS)\, 1PC\, Bellingham Covenant Church\, and Whatcom County Health and Community Services to host a free recycling event. Stop by the parking lot of Bellingham Covenant Church any time between noon and 3 p.m. to drop off your hard-to-recycle items for donation and recycling.  \n\n\n\nWhat to bring:  \n\n\n\n\nUp to three grocery bags (or 2 banker boxes) of sensitive documents to be shredded in SSC’s shredder truck at the event and then recycled. No need to remove staples\, paper clips\, or notebook spirals. Ringed binders\, CDs\, and DVDs can not be shredded. (Shredded paper can’t typically be recycled through residential recycling services in Bellingham).\n\n\n\nOld TVs\, computer monitors\, desktop computers\, laptops\, tablets\, e-readers\, and portable DVD players to be refurbished or recycled \n\nNote: Data on the devices that are refurbished or recycled will be destroyed (more info here)\n\n\n\n\n\nSingle-use batteries (such as alkaline):\n\nAA\, AAA\, 9V\, C\, D\, and button cells\n\n\n\nLithium primary \n\n\n\n\n\nRechargeable batteries:\n\nLithium ion (Li-Ion)\n\n\n\nNickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd)\n\n\n\nNickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH)\n\n\n\nNickel Zinc (Ni-Zn)\n\n\n\nSmall Sealed Lead Acid (SSLA/Pb)\n\n\n\n\n\nUsed athletic shoes and sneakers in any size or condition. Shoes will be donated or recycled depending on condition. DESCRIPTION:Having a hard time keeping up with all of the changes to rental regulations? We’re here to help! Join us for a free event on April 28 at 3:30 p.m. in Bellingham City Council Chambers to learn about new rental regulations and to get your questions answered.  \n\n\n\nCity staff will be joined by local support organizations – WWU’s Off Campus Living\, Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center and others – to tell you what you need to know about new rental laws and answer your questions.   \n\n\n\nThe educational session will cover new local ordinances related to renting\, state rent stabilization laws\, and Fair Housing requirements – including the top reported fair housing complaint in Whatcom County\, which is discrimination based on disability. The local support organizations for landlords and tenants will be tabling and sharing resources.      \n\n\n\nThis event is the second of two we are hosting this April in recognition of Fair Housing Month. DESCRIPTION:In celebration of National Public Works Week\, join us to learn more about where your drinking water comes from and how it’s treated. The City’s Water Treatment Plant\, located near Whatcom Falls Park\, takes water from Lake Whatcom\, filters and treats it\, and distributes it throughout the City. Tours of the Water Treatment Plant run approximately one hour long.  \n\n\n\n\nAttendees must be 8 years or older. \n\n\n\nPlease arrive 5-10 minutes early. Tour groups must start and end the tour together. It is not possible to leave early because participants must remain with the group leader while on plant grounds.\n\n\n\nParticipants must be able to walk approximately 1 mile and travel up and down stairs. If you need an accommodations\, including translations services\, please contact us in advance of the tour. \n\n\n\n\nPlease pre-register by emailing askpw@cob.org. Space is limited. Staff will follow up to confirm your attendance and provide necessary waivers\, directions\, and safety information.
