This new trail extension will close the gap in connecting three different neighborhoods with a regional trail and park destination site. This trail will connect users to the east-west segment the Squalicum Creek Trail, which heads west to future connections to Bellingham Bay. The completed project will also result in a loop trail around Sunset Pond Park. Work includes the trail extension on the upland slope connecting to Sunset Drive, boardwalk trail through the floodplain, and new bridge over Squalicum Creek to connect to Irongate Road.
Status
Work started in June 2025 and we expect to open the trail by late February 2026.
