Ways to Volunteer:

Work Parties are a great way to learn more about Bellingham Parks and environmental stewardship. The Bellingham Parks Volunteer Program hosts drop-in Work Parties throughout the year and provides tools, gloves, and direction. All you need to do is show up dressed for the weather and we will help you get started on improving the ecosystem! All ages are welcome.

Do you have a favorite park or section of trail? Are you concerned about dog waste in parks? Park Stewards are long term volunteers who adopt certain parks, trails, or dog waste stations. Stewards perform duties such as litter pick up, clean up after storms, invasive species removal, stocking dog waste stations with bags, reporting maintenance issues, and more. Stewards set their own hours and work with the support of the Bellingham Parks staff. See our Park Steward section for more information.

Interested in organizing your own work party and/or volunteering as a group? Group volunteering is a great way to build teamwork while positively impacting the community. Organizations, clubs, religious groups, businesses, and teachers seeking opportunities for their students are encouraged to reach out to us. The Bellingham Parks Volunteer Program can organize a private community-led work party or your group can join a drop-in Saturday work party. Tools, gloves, and direction are provided. Please call to notify us of what work party your group plans to attend or to schedule your own. See a list of upcoming Work Parties.

If you are a student looking to complete your volunteer hours for service learning or as part of a class requirement, please attend one of our Work Parties. Parks Volunteer Program staff will be happy to sign any paperwork for you after the work party.

If you need to fulfill your hours for court-mandated community service, you can volunteer with Bellingham Parks! Work Parties are a great way to fulfill hours; please see our schedule for upcoming drop-in opportunities. Parks Volunteer Program staff will sign any necessary paperwork after the work party.

We work with schools throughout Bellingham to engage students in stewardship of our local parks. Most classes work at parks within walking distance of their school. Please contact us if you’d like to learn more about the environmental education service learning opportunities available through our School Stewardship Programs.
