City Council

The City Council is Bellingham’s legislative body, responsible for setting public policies, adopting long-range plans, approving the budget and taxes, and passing laws. Voters who live in Bellingham elect City Council Members. They serve four-year terms, except for the At-Large Council Member, who serves a two-year term.

All correspondence sent to City employees is subject to public disclosure requirements under state law. Correspondence from members of the public will be disclosed to any person who makes a request, unless exempt from disclosure under state law.

By state law, public equipment, facilities, and employee work time may not be used to support or oppose candidates or ballot propositions. Please do not send campaign-related correspondence to City offices or employees.
