There are over 75 miles of shoreline in Bellingham, including the marine nearshore of Bellingham Bay, two freshwater lakes, and five streams. These habitats provide corridors for fish and wildlife, as well as trails and recreational opportunities for the Bellingham community. Keeping these waterways and the surrounding greenspace clean and available ensures the quality of life we enjoy. The City’s Natural Resources Division of the Public Works Department develops and oversees an extensive habitat restoration program.
To get involved, sign up for our quarterly habitat announcements. News will include volunteer opportunities, such as community work parties, and will feature updates about the City’s habitat restoration projects, fish monitoring results, wildlife sightings, and more.
