Earth Week 2025 Events

Join the more than 1 billion people worldwide who celebrate Earth Day each year! Below is a list of family-friendly activities offered by the City of Bellingham in celebration of our planet. Earth Day is Tuesday, April 22.

Earth Day Community Work Party at Squalicum Creek

Saturday, April 19, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Squalicum Creek Re-route site
Join us for a community work party at the Squalicum Creek Re-route restoration project site. Together, we will remove invasive plants to improve habitat and help water quality in Squalicum Creek. Tools, gloves, coffee, and snacks are provided. All ages and abilities welcome. A registration link will be shared here soon.

Earth Day Recycling Drop-off Event

Saturday, April 19, 12-3 p.m. at 1355 Civic Field Way
Clear your clutter and reduce your environmental impact by bringing your hard-to-recycle items to our drop-off event! Stop by any time between 12 to 3 p.m. with your sensitive documents for shredding and recycling, electronic waste for refurbishment or recycling, single-use and rechargeable batteries, and used athletic shoes for donation.

Earth-Themed Children’s Storytimes

Multiple dates
Storytimes during the week of April 21 will be focused on nature and earth themes! Join the Bellingham Public Library for one of these events at the Central or Bellis Fair branches. Check back later for the April schedule.

Free First Friday: Conservation and Sustainability

Friday, April 4 at Old City Hall and The Lightcatcher
Celebrate Earth Day early with the Whatcom Museum! Bring your broken items back to life at our Fix-It-Fair, make recycled art with local artists, see a maquette statue of Nisqually activist Billy Frank Jr., and watch a free screening of Fish War.

Earth Day Children’s Books

All week
Bellingham Public Library has curated a special book list for children titled Connecting With Our Earth. Enjoy a variety of Earth Day related children’s book available in digital and physical formats.

“Check Out” a Washington State Park

All week
Backpacks with a limited-edition Discover Pass are available to be checked out at the Bellingham Public Library for two weeks at a time. The Discover Pass allows free parking at Washington State Parks. The backpack includes a set of binoculars, three field guides, and a map of all Washington State Parks.
