  • The Board of Fire Commissioners meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 1:00 PM at Station 31 (752 Marine Dr)

  • Whatcom County Fire District 8 currently has a vacant Fire Commissioner position. 
    • This position will be appointed by the current Board of Commissioners through an application process for a 2 year interim term.  The position will then be required to stand for election in November of 2025.  You must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and live within the Fire District 8 boundaries. 
    • If you are interested, please submit a letter of interest addressed to Keith Neher, Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners.  Letters may be mailed or dropped off at our office located at 1800 Broadway, Bellingham, WA 98225 or may be submitted by email to fire@cob.org.   Letters of interest will be accepted until the position is filled.  The first review of letters will occur at the regular meeting of the Board of Fire Commissioners at 1 p.m. on Thursday January 11, 2024.
    • Whatcom County Fire District 8 serves the communities of Marietta and the Lummi Nation on Gooseberry Point.  For more information about the fire district, you can check out our website at www.whatcomfire8.org.  The board of fire commissioners is governed by Chapter 52.26.080 of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW).
    • Board meetings are held each month at 1 pm on the 2nd Thursday of the month at Fire Station 31 (752 Marine Dr., Bellingham).  Commissioners are compensated for meetings per RCW 52.14.010. At this time, the rate of compensation is $161 per day.  Board compensation is for time spent in actual attendance at official meetings of the board or in performance of other services or duties on behalf of the fire district.
