Drivers need to know that the following City of Bellingham streets will have traffic limitations during the week of June 27 through July 1 in order to accommodate construction. Motorists are reminded that weather and road conditions can change rapidly; drivers should plan accordingly.
Billy Frank, Jr. Street – Holly to Chestnut streets
30th Street – Connolly to Old Fairhaven Parkway
Bill MacDonald Parkway – 21st Street to W. Campus Parkway
Work is underway along each of these locations to prepare for road resurfacing. Flagging is provided at each location; drivers should expect some detouring and delays. For more information, visit the City's web site or contact Freeman Anthony, P.E., project engineer, at fanthony@cob.org or 778-7924.
Champion Street – from Ellis Street to Cornwall Avenue
Construction work on a water main project will impact traffic, including flagging and temporary lane closures as crews perform trenching for utility work. For more information, visit the City's web page at Water Main Replacement Program or contact Stephen Day, P.E., project engineer, at smday@cob.org or 778-7944.
WSDOT: I-5 between Iowa Street and Nulle Road
According to the state Department of Transportation, motorists can expect lane closures along I-5, alternating between north- and south-bound, lasting through July, for paving work. The project will require closing the Samish Way on and off ramps southbound (July 5-6) and northbound (July 6-7) and the Ohio Street southbound off ramp (June 27-29.) For more information, visit https://wsdot.wa.gov/construction-planning/search-projects.
The City of Bellingham Public Works Department provides this road status update, as a public service, based on currently available information. When traveling through a construction area, drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are asked to be patient, proceed with caution and obey flaggers at all times. Planned road closures and restrictions are necessary to allow for a variety of work including resurfacing, sidewalk construction, water and sewer main work, and utility cuts. Dates, times and work locations are subject to change due to inclement weather or last-minute changes in work schedules.
