Road restrictions and closures Sept. 6-9

weather and road conditions can change rapidly

Sep 02, 2016 - by Amy Cloud, Communications and Outreach

Drivers need to know that the following City of Bellingham streets will have traffic limitations during the holiday-shortened week of Sept. 6-9 in order to accommodate construction. Motorists are reminded that weather and road conditions can change rapidly; drivers should plan accordingly.

Sunset Drive – from Interstate-5 to Ellis St
Drivers should expect daytime construction with temporary lane revisions and intermittent detours as crews work on a watermain utility replacement project.  Flaggers will be on-site when construction or detours are active.  The project contractor is aware of the traffic needs related to the popular annual Greek Fest beginning Sept. 8. (Night work is expected to begin next week, Sept. 12.)  For more information, visit the City's web page at Water Main Replacement Program or contact Stephen Day, P.E., project engineer, at smday@cob.org or 778-7944.

24th Street & Mill Avenue
Cornwall Avenue – Young Street – Kentucky Street
Drivers should expect some road closures as construction workers prepare for sidewalk construction and paving, as part of bicycle and pedestrian access improvements.  Flaggers will on-site throughout the construction and painting process. For more information contact Paul Reed, construction manager, at 778-7929 or preed@cob.org.

Champion Street – from Ellis Street to Cornwall Avenue
Construction work on a water main project will impact traffic, with flagging and some road closures while crews perform sidewalk restoration work. For more information, visit the City's web page at Water Main Replacement Program or contact Stephen Day, P.E., project engineer, at smday@cob.org or 778-7944.

The City of Bellingham Public Works Department provides this road status update, as a public service, based on currently available information. When traveling through a construction area, drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are asked to be patient, proceed with caution and obey flaggers at all times. Planned road closures and restrictions are necessary to allow for a variety of work including resurfacing, sidewalk construction, water and sewer main work, and utility cuts. Dates, times and work locations are subject to change due to inclement weather or last-minute changes in work schedules. For general questions, please query AskPW@cob.org.
