Student art displayed on Mayor's holiday cards

Two Northern Heights Elementary School students honored this year

December 12, 2016 - by Marina Price, Mayor's office

Two Northern Heights Elementary School students are being honored this year by having their artwork featured on the Mayor's Office holiday greeting cards.

Bellingham Mayor Kelli Linville selected drawings by Anela Kuhaulua and Stella Gaffney, both in the 4th grade, to be featured on this year's Mayor's Office holiday cards. Their illustrations were chosen from more than 200 designs submitted.

Each year, the Mayor solicits drawings from a local elementary school to feature on the cards. The cards are mailed out to hundreds of community volunteers, board and commission members, local, state and federal elected officials, and other community leaders. Bellingham Public Schools selects one elementary school per year to participate, and students from each grade in that school are asked to submit drawings that illustrate wintertime celebrations. From the drawings submitted, the Mayor selects two to be featured on cards.

The Mayor also visits the selected school and presents awards to the school and the students whose works of art are chosen.

Congratulations, Anela and Stella!
