Around 4:20 pm today Bellingham Police responded to a stabbing that had just occurred in the 100 block of E. Holly St. where a victim had been stabbed in the neck.

Witnesses to the stabbing followed the suspect to the 1400 block of Railroad Ave., where a Bellingham Police officer saw him and attempted to stop him.  The suspect still armed with a knife, refused multiple commands by the officer to drop the knife and advanced on the officer.  The Officer tried to create distance by backing up while giving commands for the suspect to drop the knife.  The suspect refused to drop the knife and was shot.  The suspect died at the scene.

The victim of the stabbing is at St. Joseph's hospital for treatment, and his condition is unknown at this time.

Law Enforcement Multi Agency Response Team (LEMART), headed by the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office, is investigating the officer involved shooting.  The Bellingham Police Department is investigating the stabbing incident.
