Arrest made in suspicious death

Roommate in custody for murder

March 04, 2017 - by Danette Beckley

Police detectives arrested 40 year old Travis James Marshall  late Friday afternoon for Murder in the Second Degree.  The victim, identified as 53 year old David Quintin Williams, was roommates with Marshall.

Police were called to the 700 block of E. Illinois early Friday morning and found Williams unresponsive in the yard near the front door of his residence.  Williams had sustained significant trauma to his head and face.  Medics performed life saving measures, but were unable to revive Williams.  Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.

Evidence at the scene indicated a fight or confrontation.  Marshall had injuries consistent with being involved in a physical altercation.  Injuries to Marshall include a broken bone in his right hand, scratches to his right forearm, and cuts on his left hand which required stitches.

Marshall made several conflicting statements to detectives regarding the events that occurred late Thursday evening of March 2, into the early morning hours of Friday March 3.  Statements from witnesses, as well as evidence at the scene, conflict with Marshall's account of events.

Marshall was booked into the Whatcom County Jail for Murder in the Second Degree.  Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators will continue to work with the medical examiner and the prosecutor's office on this investigation.
