For three days at the end of October, Bellingham residents will be able to drop off tree branches and woody debris – for free – at Cowden Gravel on 4000 Hannegan Road in Bellingham.
The October drop-off period is timed to coordinate with fall clean-up of woody debris. From Friday, Oct. 27 through Sunday, Oct. 29 between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Public Works will be set up to receive the type of yard waste previously accepted during Clean Green, i.e. branches and woody material, but no dirt or grass clippings or material that cannot go through a chipper for mulch.
The City of Bellingham’s subsidy of a seasonal woody debris transfer station (Clean Green) ended nearly two years ago as there are options available now that did not exist when the program began. Those options – for year-round disposal of yard waste and compost – include:
- Sanitary Service Company (SSC) – Food+ is an every other week curbside pick-up program
- Green Earth Technology
- Recycling & Disposal Services
- Nooksack Valley Disposal
- Compost your own – to learn about composting, visit WSU Whatcom County Extension
City of Bellingham residents already receive curbside garbage pick-up and recycling services through SSC. To add the Food+ option, contact Sanitary Services directly at (360) 734-3490.
