June 24, 2018 - by Claudia Murphy, PIO

A 21 year old Everson resident, driver and sole occupant of his car, was involved in a single vehicle collision in the 1300 block of Woburn Street in the early morning hours of June 24th, 2018.  The driver was transported to PeaceHealth Emergency Department in Bellingham, and later died of his injuries.

On 6-24-2018 at approximately 1:30 am, a Bellingham Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop to investigate a criminal traffic offense, when the driver fled at a high rate of speed.  The officer lost sight of the driver and vehicle shortly after that.  Officers checking the surrounding area came across a single vehicle collision in the 1300 block of Woburn Street.  Further investigation revealed the only occupant of the vehicle was the driver.

Officers rendered aid until Bellingham Fire Department personnel arrived and transported him to the hospital, where he later died of his injuries.  The name of the driver is being withheld pending family notification.  Vehicle speed and alcohol consumption are both being considered as contributing factors which led to the collision.

Woburn Street, between Lakeway Drive and Old Woburn Street, was closed for several hours while Bellingham Police Crime Scene Investigators and Traffic Officers investigated the collision.
