Bellingham Police Department offers volunteer opportunities

Academy Two coming up

February 05, 2018 - by Danette Beckley

The Bellingham Police Department is excited to offer our second volunteer academy beginning February 21, 2018.  The academy will run every Wednesday evening for six weeks, with different training topics covered each week.

The Bellingham Police Volunteer Group is comprised of two different teams, each with specific functions and objectives.  The Bellingham Citizen Patrol (BCP) focuses on abandoned vehicle enforcement, vacation house checks, and disabled parking violations.  These uniformed volunteers typically work one 3-4 hour shift per week.

Bellingham Neighbors Together (BNT) provides visible presence in the community and it serves to deter crime through education of citizens and reporting of suspicious activity. Volunteers work in pairs as they patrol the city in vehicles, on bicycles, or on foot.  BNT seeks a minimum commitment of four hours per month from members.
