Matthew D. Gregory, 29, was booked into the Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of 2nd degree Murder in the early morning hours of July 30, 2018 after an investigation revealed there was probable cause to believe he caused the death of his mother, Frances Gregory, 64.
On July 29, 2018 the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office recovered the body of a woman off-shore in Lake Samish and were investigating to determine her identity. Also on July 29, 2018, Bellingham Police Department Officers responded to Matthew Gregory's home to take the report of a missing person, his mother Frances. Further investigation and an autopsy revealed that the cases were linked and the deceased woman was identified as Frances Gregory and she died from trauma to the neck and head.
