Summer chip seal street projects begin Aug. 6

Work focused on three stretches of city street

August 02, 2018 - by Amy Cloud, Communications and Outreach

For a week or so, residents and those who commute along Yew Street Road, Old Samish and Kellogg Road will need to be mindful of chip sealing.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 6, Whatcom County crews on contract will work to repair road surfaces at three Bellingham locations:

  • Yew Street – from San Juan Boulevard to Lakeway Drive;
  • Old Samish – from Chuckanut Drive to 32nd Street; and
  • Kellogg Road – from Deemer to James Street.

Due to oil and loose gravel, drivers should travel slower than normal for at least a week on these stretches of street.

Chip sealing is a cost-effective way to resurface road, when the base is still solid, but the surface is showing cracking and wear.
