Scheduled for Wednesday, November 20 at 1 pm at Bellingham Christ the King Church

November 12, 2019 - by Kyle Nelson, PIO

Chief Michael Knapp's life was defined by service beginning with his service to the country as a member of the US Army.  He served his communities through his career as a Federal Bureau of Investigations Special Agent and as the police chief of several agencies within Whatcom County.  He served as the police chief for the City of Ferndale from 2005-2016.  After retiring from the Ferndale Police Department, he served as the interim police chief for the City of Blaine.  His service was tragically cut short on 11/06/2019, when he succumbed to the injuries he received after being struck by a vehicle the day prior.  He was serving at that time as the interim police chief of the Lynden Police Department.  He is survived by his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren.

The Whatcom County Support Officers and the Behind the Badge Foundation have been working closely with Chief Knapp's family and the City of Lynden regarding his memorial.  The memorial service for Chief Michael Knapp is scheduled for Wednesday, November 20 at 1 pm at Bellingham Christ the King Church, located at 4173 Meridian Street, Bellingham.  The memorial will also be live-streamed to Lynden Christ the King Church.  The public can show their support for Chief Knapp at either location.

A memorial fund has been established at People's Bank.  Donations can be made to the Chief Michael Knapp Memorial Fund at any People's Bank location or at the Lynden Police Department.
