Bellingham Mayor Seth Fleetwood honored four property owners and businesses for their work to revitalize downtown at the Mayor’s City Center Awards ceremony, July 27, 2023, at the Whatcom Museum Lightcatcher Building. Awards were presented to the teams responsible for Chuckanut Bay Distillery and Penny Farthing, the Renaissance (Elks) Building, Hudson Yard and Storia Cucina. Videos linked below highlight each award recipient’s work.

The Mayor’s City Center Awards, initiated in 2017, recognize and showcase outstanding achievements and exceptional projects that improve and revitalize the City Center Neighborhood.

Each award year the Mayor selects property owners, businesses and/or organizations as awardees based on criteria that includes outstanding restoration, rehabilitation, or renovation of an existing building; creating unique residential and commercial spaces within existing buildings; activating adjacent public spaces; and taking other actions that improve the quality of life in Bellingham’s City Center.

“I am pleased to acknowledge, honor and celebrate these four outstanding projects and the people who made them happen,” Mayor Fleetwood said. “The exceptional projects chosen for this year’s Mayor’s City Center Awards represent investments that honor legacy buildings in our City’s core, help revitalize our downtown, and create wonderful improvements that will live on for decades to come. Thank you to our award recipients and everyone else contributing to the health and vibrancy of our downtown.”
