Colorful new banners celebrate unique character of Bellingham districts
Public Works crews have been busy hanging new light pole banners in neighborhoods surrounding our city center. The banners – funded by taxes on overnight lodging and accommodations – highlight some of the most prominent features unique to each district. Nearly 300 banners will eventually hang throughout Downtown, Fairhaven, the Waterfront, the Arts District, and Old Town. The purpose is to help residents and visitors feel a sense of connection to place and to understand the types of activities and offerings available in each district. Each design includes intricate details, so look closely and you may find something new each time you do!

Little Squalicum Pier opens
For the first time in its long history, community members can access Little Squalicum Pier, which was built in 1912 to deliver cement products to barges moored offshore. It has been a longtime priority of the City to open the pier to the public. The Greenways Levy provided $1.6 million to install new pedestrian guardrails, deck grating, and wind- and solar-powered lighting. The pier extends 1,248 feet into the bay, making it the longest, public pier in Washington state. Visit our website to learn more about the pier renovation project.
