Mayor releases six-month report on progress downtown
In the six months since Mayor Kim Lund’s Executive Order 2024-01 was announced, City of Bellingham teams have made progress in carrying out activities focused on making downtown safer, cleaner and more welcoming, as detailed in a report released today (August 22, 2024). Now, the City is expanding those efforts by inviting community input and committing to additional actions to create and carry out a vision for future for downtown.

Mayor Lund appoints two new deputy administrators
Bellingham Mayor Kim Lund announced today that she has appointed Forrest Longman and Janice Keller to roles as the City’s deputy administrators.
City Council approves emergency landmark tree protections
To prevent the removal of exceptional trees in anticipation of new regulations, the Bellingham City Council enacted an Emergency Landmark Tree Ordinance on May 20, 2024. It took effect immediately upon approval. This ordinance protects trees that are considered "landmark trees" - the largest, most significant trees in Bellingham - establishes a landmark tree inventory and a permitting process for removal, and establishes a larger fine for illegal removal.
