Annual Lake Whatcom meeting scheduled for April 2
The Lake Whatcom Management Program partners invite the community to attend their annual Lake Whatcom Joint Councils and Commissioners meeting on Wednesday, April 2, at 6:30 p.m.
City to invest $40 million in air quality upgrades at Post Point Wastewater Treatment plant
The City of Bellingham is moving forward with a $40 million investment to upgrade the sewage sludge incinerators at the Post Point Wastewater Treatment Plant with enhanced air emission control equipment. This project is vital to meet increasingly stringent air quality regulations and fulfills the City’s commitment to maintain the incinerators’ long-term operation, following a strategic decision in 2022.
Construction begins on 8-block Old Town development
On March 14, 2025, Bellingham Mayor Kim Lund joined the Old Town Village development team, City and County Council members, and others to celebrate the start of construction that is expected to bring approximately 800 new residential units and more commercial space to the Old Town District. The private developments will be constructed through eight city blocks over the next 10 years.

City to buy 750 acres in Lake Whatcom watershed
The City of Bellingham is acquiring 754 acres of forestland in the Lake Whatcom watershed, marking the largest purchase ever made to protect Bellingham’s drinking water source.
