Project Overview
This project (ES559) will improve the road surface in several areas around town. The project also proposes to improve the watermain along Northshore Dr and Verona St and a storm upgrade on Verona from Alabama to Texas.
All projects have been completed:
- 40th St: Donovan Avenue to Mill Avenue; Wildwood Drive to Adams Avenue (completed)
- James Street from Birchwood Avenue/ Orchard Drive to Telegraph Road (completed)
- Sylvan Street from Alabama Street to Silver Beach Avenue (completed)
- Flynn Steet from the alley (near Electric Avenue) to Decatur Street (completed)
- Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacon (RRFB) will be installed at the trail crossing from Bloedel Donovan Park into Whatcom Falls Park (completed)
- Academy Road from Northshore Drive to the City limits (completed)
- Northshore Drive from Hayward Drive to Silver Beach Street. In addition, the project will upgrade the watermain along this section of Northshore Drive (completed)
Project Status – Fall 2025
All projects are complete as of November 2025.
Funding
The project was awarded to Granite Construction on August 26, 2024. The improvements are funded by City Street Funds and voter-approved Bellingham Transportation Funds.
