The Channel Migration Zone (CMZ) is an “area within which a stream channel has historically occupied or may occupy in the future” (Ecology, 2014). This analysis utilized Washington Department of Ecology CMZ mapping guidance to delineate areas of current and future channel migration processes and hazards (erosion, scour, avulsion, fluvial-induced landslides). The analysis includes a recommended regulatory CMZ to support responsible development within the city limits of Bellingham and to inform future restoration efforts.
