Office of Emergency Management Mission
Emergency management works to protect our community by coordinating and integrating activities necessary to build, sustain, and improve the capability to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.
Partnerships
The Bellingham Office of Emergency Management is dedicated to reducing disaster risk in Bellingham and preparing the public for emergency situations. In the event of a disaster, the Bellingham Fire Department’s Office of Emergency Management may work alongside local, regional, state, and federal partners to protect life, property, and the environment.
Services
Trainings
The Office of Emergency Management co-sponsors trainings with local departments.
Emergency Operations Center
The Bellingham Office of Emergency Management participates in the Emergency Operations Center, which is activated following any locally declared disaster in Whatcom. It provides a base for coordinating the planning, operations, and logistics necessary for response.
Planning
The Bellingham Office of Emergency management develops plans to ensure continuity of essential city services in the event of a disaster.
Recovery
Following a federally declared disaster, the Bellingham Office of Emergency Management works with state and federal partners to assist with the recovery process, which may include individual assistance to impacted citizens and public assistance to impacted agencies. This supplies much needed funds to get those impacted back on their feet.
