Project Overview
As part of the James and Bakerview Intersection Improvements project (ES473), the existing intersection of James Street and Bakerview Road was reconstructed as one multimodal roundabout to improve safety, efficiency, and access for all transportation modes, including freight.
Project Status – Winter 2026
Construction of the new roundabout is complete and the roadway is open, with some minor finishing work to be completed.

Funding
Project construction was awarded by Bellingham City Council on November 18, 2024 to Faber Construction for $4,251,865.00, from the Street Fund and Transportation Fund.
Timeline
The project began at the end of March 2025 and is expected to be complete by the end of February 2026.
