Join the more than 1 billion people worldwide who celebrate Earth Day each year! Below is a list of family-friendly activities offered by the City of Bellingham in celebration of our planet. Earth Day is Tuesday, April 22.

Earth Day Community Work Party at Squalicum Creek

Saturday, April 25, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Squalicum Creek Re-route site
Join us for a community work party at the Squalicum Creek Re-route restoration project site. Together, we will remove invasive plants to improve habitat and help water quality in Squalicum Creek. Tools, gloves, coffee, and snacks are provided. All ages and abilities welcome. A registration link will be shared here soon.

Earth Day Recycling Drop-off Event

Saturday, April 25, 12-3 p.m. at 1530 East Bakerview Road
Clear your clutter and reduce your environmental impact by bringing your hard-to-recycle items to our drop-off event! Stop by any time between 12 to 3 p.m. with your sensitive documents for shredding and recycling, electronic waste for refurbishment or recycling, single-use and rechargeable batteries, and used athletic sneakers for donation.

Padden Creek Fish Passage Tour

Saturday, April 25, 2-3:30 p.m.
Join project experts for a guided tour to learn about the City’s recently completed fish passage improvement project on Padden Creek. We will walk along the Interurban Trail and learn about project construction and the fish of Padden Creek who benefit from the new culverts.

Earth-Themed Children’s Storytimes

Multiple dates
Storytimes during Earth Week will be focused on nature and earth themes! Join the Bellingham Public Library for one of these events at the Central or Bellis Fair branches. Check back later for the April schedule.

Earth Day Children’s Books

All week
Bellingham Public Library has curated a special book list for children titled Connecting With Our Earth. Enjoy a variety of Earth Day related children’s book available in digital and physical formats.

“Check Out” a Washington State Park

All week
Backpacks with a limited-edition Discover Pass are available to be checked out at the Bellingham Public Library for two weeks at a time. The Discover Pass allows free parking at Washington State Parks. The backpack includes a set of binoculars, three field guides, and a map of all Washington State Parks.

Follow the path of rain after it falls! Explore our urban and parkland areas on five self-guided tours while learning how we keep the water clean, filter out pollutants, and prevent flooding. Let our mobile-friendly site be your guide with maps, historical photos, and underground drawings.
