Events in Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Jan 17 (Saturday) , 11:00 am Jan 19 (Monday) , 2:00 pm

Every year, we join with other local organizations and invite our community to learn and serve together in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Join us on Saturday, January 17 and Monday, January 19 for two events that we are co-hosting to honor Dr. King’s legacy and impact.

Community Work Party in Squalicum Creek Park (Saturday, January 17)

Join us, the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association (NSEA), and our community for a volunteer work party from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at our Willow Spring restoration site in Squalicum Creek Park. We will plant native trees and shrubs to restore fish and wildlife habitat and improve water quality in Squalicum Creek. Volunteers are encouraged to bring donations to this work party to support the Birchwood Food Desert Fighters. Learn more and register on our event page.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration (Monday, January 19)

Join us for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Community Celebration on Monday, January 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event is hosted by the Community Consortium for Cultural Recognition, a coalition of education, local government, and nonprofit partners across Whatcom County.

This year’s theme, “Mission Possible: Moving, Building, Uniting,” invites our community to reflect on Dr. King’s teachings through volunteerism, advocacy, and the uplifting of marginalized voices. The event begins with a free community breakfast and is followed by speakers, workshops, hands-on activities, and community service projects. Together, we will engage with pressing local issues, explore practical solutions, and work toward systemic change and community well-being.

More information about the event is available on the event page.
