July 31, 2017 - by Amy Cloud, Communications and Outreach

The City of Bellingham's Arne Hanna Aquatic Center is popular and well-used. It requires regular maintenance to ensure its facilities remain safe and functional for all users. This year, the aquatic center will be closed for cleaning and maintenance beginning Monday, Aug. 7 through Sunday, Aug. 27.

Because of the closure, swim passes will be extended. The Aquatic Center's front desk, at 1114 Potter St. in Bellingham, will be staffed 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Among the list of maintenance, repair and cleaning projects at the Arne Hanna Aquatic Center:

  • Deep clean pools and facility;
  • Replace sodium lights with LED bulbs;
  • Rebuild pool filter backwash valves;
  • Make safety improvements on main drain covers; and
  • Replace portions of the electrical and chemical feed systems.
