The City of Bellingham has issued a Request for Proposals for a new mural to be installed along North Forest Street, the southern gateway to downtown Bellingham. The mural will be painted on the adjacent retaining wall, a target of graffiti that has cost the City time and labor to regularly repaint.

“This mural will welcome people arriving to downtown on bike, bus or car”, said Shannon Taysi, the manager of the City’s public artwork collection. “It will add to the City’s status as a regional arts destination and create interest on a bleak blank wall.” Mural installations elsewhere downtown have been very successful in deterring graffiti while adding to the artwork downtown.

The project is funded through the City’s street fund. $15,000 is budgeted for design, installation and other project costs.

Interested artists must respond to the Request for Proposals no later than June 14, 2021 at noon to be considered for the project. For more information or to apply, visit: https://cob.org/services/arts/public-art
