City invites feedback on Comprehensive Plan update

The Bellingham Plan will guide our City for years to come

September 07, 2023 - by Melissa Morin, Assistant Communications Director

Bellingham residents – and those who visit, work, or go to school in the city – are invited to participate in two upcoming events to learn about and give input to The Bellingham Plan, which will guide growth and development in Bellingham for years to come. City staff will host a virtual information and discussion session on Wednesday, September 20 and an in-person open house on Tuesday, September 26.

Attendees will have the opportunity to share their vision for how the city should grow and discuss topics such as climate resilience, housing, recreation, economic vitality, transportation, and equitable growth. Input from the sessions will inform the development of several approaches to growth the City may consider and will guide topics to be covered in future public engagement opportunities for The Bellingham Plan.

“The Bellingham Plan represents an opportunity for our community to envision the city we hope to be twenty years from now,” said Bellingham Mayor Seth Fleetwood. “As we kick off this process, I invite everyone in Bellingham to tell us what kind of future you want to see.”

About The Bellingham Plan

The Bellingham Plan is a two-year project to update the City’s Comprehensive Plan, the policy document that steers the city’s growth toward a twenty-year vision for the future. This update will guide development, capital investments, City programs, and other actions as the community works towards a vision for our city in 2045.

City staff are also soliciting input through a visioning survey, available online and mailed to Bellingham households. Future opportunities to weigh in on The Bellingham Plan will take place throughout 2024 and early 2025.
