Lee Memorial Park hosts fun summer events
Lee Memorial Park (Central Library lawn, 210 Lottie St.) is hosting a variety of fun kid- and family-friendly events this summer. The events kick off with the Animals as Natural Therapy and Early Childhood Resources Fair on July 10, where you can meet miniature horses and other animals while connecting with community resource providers. Other summer events in the park offer opportunities for kids to make fun crafts and play games, lay on a blanket and listen to stories, dance to Taylor Swift songs, and more. Visit our webpage for the full schedule of events at Lee Memorial Park.
City Council to discuss utility rate increases
Community members are invited to listen in as the Bellingham City Council discusses proposed utility rate increases at their meeting on Monday, July 7. These rate changes would allow the City to make essential upgrades to our aging infrastructure, ensure our systems stay reliable into the future, and fund critical improvements like enhanced solids handling at the Post Point Wastewater Treatment Plant. Your utilities protect public health and our environment, and new investments are necessary to continue providing dependable utility service for years to come.
City facilities closed July 4
City Hall, Bellingham Public Library locations, Arne Hanna Aquatic Center, and Whatcom Museum will be closed in observance of the federal holiday. Public Works and Parks emergency services can be reached at 360-778-7700. Police, fire, and medic services are always available by calling 911. The Fourth of July fireworks show will begin at 10:30 p.m., Friday, July 4 at Zuanich Point Park. Please note: All consumer fireworks are prohibited within City limits. For a full schedule of events at Zuanich Point Park, visit the Bellingham Regional Chamber of Commerce webpage.
A first look at the new waterfront skatepark
Wheels are officially in motion for the Waterfront District’s newest recreation space: a sprawling skatepark under Roeder Avenue Bridge. Images of the conceptual design are ready, and you can see those and learn more about the City of Bellingham and Northwest Skate Collective’s plans for the space on our project page. The City will use this initial concept to create a more detailed and technical design in 2026. Stay tuned for a chance to give your feedback during this next stage of the process.
Improving public spaces
We’re wrapping up striping and some pedestrian and bicycle improvements on the roundabout at West Illinois Street and Meridian Street, so travelers can expect some single lane closures during the week of July 7. We also recently reopened both the James Street and Meador Avenue bridges, with some temporary lane closures still to come for final striping and project completion.
