Improving public spaces
Sunset Pond loop trail
Sunset Pond is getting a nearly 2-mile loop trail. Workers are using the existing trail to provide construction access, so please follow detour signs and avoid closed areas. Work will continue through the end of the year. Visit the Sunset Pond Trail webpage for more information.
Cornwall Memorial Park courts
We are replacing two existing tennis courts with three pickleball courts and one tennis court at Cornwall Memorial Park starting in July. The courts undergoing renovation will be closed, but existing pickleball courts will remain open for play. We expect the project to be completed in September.
ASB trail section closed
A section of the ASB waterfront trail will be closed July 1-7 for the annual Fourth of July fireworks display. The fireworks show will begin at 10:30 p.m., Friday, July 4 at Zuanich Point Park. For a full schedule of events at the park, visit the Bellingham Regional Chamber of Commerce website. Please note: All consumer fireworks are prohibited within city limits.
Trail detour near Fairhaven Park
Also, a heads up to Interurban Trail users: Starting July 1, you’ll encounter a detour on the trail between 10th Street and Fairhaven Park. This temporary reroute is necessary for important work to remove two fish passage barriers where the trail crosses Padden Creek. These improvements will make the crossings fully passable for various fish species. Construction is scheduled to run from July 1 through the fall, keeping us within the approved work window for fish protection. Learn more on our project website.
