It’s Free First Friday time at the Whatcom Museum again, and this week we’re diving into all things water. Here are a few of the activities in store tomorrow, Sept. 4:
- Sharing our Water Market with water-related vendors and organizations
- Storytelling hour featuring tales rooted in Coast Salish tradition and place woven by Nooksack storytellers Tammy Cooper-Woodrich and Angela LeToi
- A series of panel discussions on water’s cultural significance, environmental importance, and economic contributions to our region, as well as public water management

National Police K9 Day was Sept. 1
Did you know Bellingham Police Department has the longest running K-9 Unit in Washington? The unit was started in 1969 and has been continuous since then. BPD currently has four K-9 teams trained for finding explosives and drugs, and to track human scent. You can learn more about our talented K9 team and see photos of them in action at the Bellingham Police Department Facebook or Instagram pages.
New Landlord-Tenant Advisory Work Group appointed
The City has appointed its first Landlord and Tenant Advisory Work Group. The group will spend the next year reviewing local rental policies and programs before delivering recommendations to City leadership. This new effort supports the City’s commitment to safe, quality, and accessible rental housing. Read the full announcement to learn more about the group’s scope and upcoming work.
Expect delays next week on Meridian Street
Travelers may experience delays along Meridian Street between Van Wyck Road and Tremont Avenue as construction begins next Wednesday, Sept. 9, on the new Tremont Lift Station. The far-right northbound lane and shoulder will be closed from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. during construction. The new lift station will improve wastewater capacity to support development on Bellingham’s north side.

It’s that time of year again to share your cutest dog photos! You can submit a photo of your adorable pup during the month of September for a chance to win a prize pack that makes scooping dog poop easier. Dog poop left on the ground washes into our waterways as pollution, which can harm people, pets, and the environment.
