Construction Impacts

Newmarket will be closed for part of the day on Monday, September 11 while we prepare the directional bore under Barkley Boulevard. On September 18, Newmarket will be closed again for 2-3 weeks while we do the directional bore from Newmarket to Woburn. Access to businesses will be maintained from Woburn during this stage. Barkley will remain open.

Flaggers will be present for approximately six months. Minor detours may be needed for specific sections of the work. Access to businesses, as well as local access to homes and for emergency vehicles, will be maintained during construction. Construction is expected to conclude at the end of November.

Thank you for your patience.

Background

After nearly 100 years of use, the sanitary sewer mains on Woburn, Yew, and Barkley have reached their capacity and need to be upsized to allow the sewer system to meet increasing demand as Bellingham grows.

Construction Method

Open cut methods will be used to replace the existing mains with the exception of Barkley Boulevard, which will use directional boring (horizontal directional drilling).
