Road Closure Information

This page provides information about longer-term street closures due to weather-related damage that require extended repairs.

It does not provide real-time updates during active weather events. Temporary flooding and short-term closures can change quickly, and City resources are prioritized for emergency response and public safety, rather than tracking hour-by-hour road conditions.

Updates about longer-term closures will be posted here when available. During severe weather, please obey posted signage, avoid flooded areas and standing water, and use caution as conditions may change rapidly.

December 2025 Flooding (updated Dec. 31, 2025)

As of December 31, all Bellingham roads impacted by recent flooding are now open!

Hannegan Road Fully Open

As of December 31, Hannegan Road is fully reopened to traffic after a major culvert failure caused by heavy rainfall closed Hannegan Road between Bakerview Road and Van Wyck Road. Planning for a full culvert replacement is ongoing.

Dec. 31, 2025: Section of Hannegan Road was recently repaved and fully reopened to regular traffic, following a culvert failure after heavy rainfall.

A large section of roadway collapsed on December 11 after a significant failure was identified in a deep corrugated metal culvert that is located 25 feet beneath Hannegan Road. The failure occurred following repeated heavy rain events. The culvert, located where the road crosses Baker Creek, required extensive excavation to access. Crews stabilized the site and installed a new culvert that they rerouted the creek into. They re-paved the road during the week of December 29 so it could be fully reopened.

Woburn Street Fully Open

As of the afternoon of December 23, Woburn Street is fully reopened to traffic after a temporary closure due to heavy rainfall. City staff and contractors worked quickly to complete critical underground pipe repairs and restore the roadway surface. Thank you for your patience!

Recently repaired roadway with fresh section of asphalt
December 23, 2025 – The damaged section of roadway on Woburn Street has been repaired.

A section of Woburn Street collapsed where the roadway crosses Cemetery Creek after ongoing heavy rainfall weakened the underlying stormwater infrastructure and the culvert failed. This caused water to pool beneath the roadway and weaken the road based.

December 17, 2025 – Elevated water level in Cemetery Creek from heavy rainfall weakened a culvert under the roadway, causing a section of road to collapse.

City crews closed the road between Lakeway Drive and Fraser Street on December 12 after noticing a developing indentation and began planning repairs. Additional rainfall led to a full collapse of the road base in the evening of December 16.

Utilities in the area were protected, and crews immediately implemented temporary measures to keep systems operating while stabilization work continued. Crews and contractors moved quickly to repair the underground culvert, stabilize the area, and rebuild the roadway.
