Are you interested in taking action to reduce your environmental impact? Whether you want to use less energy and water, clean up our natural areas, join local environmental groups, or encourage others to take action, there are so many ways to get involved! Knowing where to start can feel overwhelming, the following three pledges provide guidance on simple actions you can take to make a difference.
I’m In for Climate Action Pledge
Help the Bellingham community achieve its climate goals by making a personal commitment to take at least one action to reduce local greenhouse gas emissions. For example, you can reduce nearly 20 pounds of CO2 emissions for every mile not driven in an average passenger car. Pledge participants in Whatcom County are eligible to enter a quarterly prize drawing!
Outdoor Water Conservation Pledge
Help reduce the strain on our City’s drinking water supply during the dry summer months by making a commitment to follow smart watering tips. If all City water customers committed to this pledge, roughly 2.5 million gallons of water could be saved every day during the summer. Participants can choose to receive free outdoor water conservation tools.
We Scoop Pledge
Help keep disease-causing organisms from pet waste out of our waterways and natural areas by picking up dog poop at home and on walks. If every dog owner in our community picked up their dog’s poop daily, we would keep 20,000 pounds of poop from entering our waterways! Participants will receive a free Poop Scooping Toolkit and stickers.
