For a week in April, called Spring Clean, City of Bellingham residents will be able to drop off tree branches and woody debris – for free – at Cowden Gravel on 4000 Hannegan Road in Bellingham.
The April 1-8 drop-off period is timed to coordinate with spring cleaning. From Friday-to-Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Public Works will be set up to receive the type of yard waste previously accepted during Clean Green, i.e. branches and woody material, but no dirt or grass clippings or material that cannot go through a chipper for mulch.
The City of Bellingham’s subsidy of a seasonal woody debris transfer station (Clean Green) has ended. However, there are options for year-round disposal of yard waste and compost, including:
- Sanitary Service Company – Food+ Program is an every-other week curbside pickup program
- Green Earth Technology
- Recycling & Disposal Services
- Nooksack Valley Disposal
- Compost your own – to learn more about composting, please visit WSU Whatcom County Extension
Twice a year, for a week in the spring and fall, as well as after significant storms, Bellingham Public Works will accept residential yard waste from city residents, at no charge.
