This is a heart warming story that shows how fast action and teamwork can truly save a life. Bellingham Fire Department Fire Captain Tobey Stevenson stepped in off duty, used his training, and helped make a life saving difference alongside fellow bystanders. Outstanding work, Tobey. Thank you for representing Bellingham Fire so well!Quick thinking made all the difference at Edmonds Harbor Square Athletic Club.
When a pickleball player collapsed and stopped breathing late last year, fellow gym members didn’t hesitate. Several bystanders called 911 and grabbed an AED (defibrillator), while off-duty Bellingham Fire Department Firefighter Tobey Stevenson and cardiologist Dr. Neil Siecke immediately performed CPR.
They used the AED to restart the patient's heart before emergency crews arrived.
“I saw his eyes flicker and he started breathing," Stevenson recalled.
This week, we recognized these bystanders with Community Lifesaver Coins for their crucial intervention.
You don't need to be a doctor or firefighter to help in a crisis. That is the core mission of our ACT First Aid program. ACT (Antidote, CPR, and Tourniquet) teaches these exact skills.
We’ll give anyone the confidence to use hands-only CPR and an AED in a simple, one-hour class that removes the fear of stepping in to help.
Join the 35,000 neighbors who have already learned how to save a life. ACT is completely free and open to all.

December kept us moving, and the numbers tell the story. Crews accross the city averaged 66 calls per day. Our busiest day of the week turned out to be Tuesday, and the busiest time over the month was from 12 PM to 4 PM. If it felt like the afternoons were extra lively, that’s because they absolutely were.
And about that picture—no, it didn’t snow. Not even close. But when a photo looks that good, who could resist using it?
Here’s to a safe and steady start to the new year.🎉 ... See MoreSee Less

Merry Christmas! This morning, our crews had the privilege of delivering hundreds of gifts to children as part of our "Christmas from the Crew" event. Duty Crews, Dispatchers, Administrative Staff, the Life Safety Division, and the Training Division all came together to pool their resources and raise funds to purchase gifts for children living at the Agape House, Lighthouse Mission, and the YWCA. In total, 65 children were surprised with multiple presents each, helping make their Christmas morning a joyful and memorable one. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. Please take care of one another and have a safe and wonderful holiday! ... See MoreSee Less
