On this day 73 years ago, the Clover Building at Holly St and Commercial St caught fire. At the time, the building suffered an estimated $200,000 in damage, with Jerry’s Radio Shop sustaining the most damage. Every firefighter in the city was called to the fire, and firefighters from as far away as Mt. Vernon assisted with extinguishing the blaze. According to a Bellingham Herald report, Chief Mike Mohl said “There would have been no building left had not the men begun their work so soon, and moved so fast.” The cause of the fire was undetermined.

All four of our shifts have spent the last week working on their command and communication skills in a controlled setting. We utilize simulation videos to give our firefighters as close to real life images as possible to direct their strategies and tactics.
