Fire Chief Bill Hewett joined Mayor Kim Lund and other community leaders and downtown stakeholders who gathered to hear the Mayor’s Tuesday, Feb. 20, announcement about new actions to address the fentanyl crisis, especially focused on downtown. Immediate actions directed by Mayor Lund include increasing emergency medical services and police patrols downtown, establishing a downtown hub for first responders, prioritizing enforcement of laws prohibiting the sale and distribution of illegal drugs, increasing cleaning and sanitation services, and expanding other services to enhance safety and disrupt drug-related criminal activity. In his remarks, Chief Hewett said he is excited about these positive steps to turn the tide of opioid misery downtown.

Water quickly becomes a precious resource following many types of disasters. Everyone needs water every day! Your emergency planning should include one gallon per person per day for consumption, cooking, and hygiene. Store purified water in thoroughly cleaned, sealed containers, and replace it every six months. Consider adding a water filter to your emergency preparedness kits so that you can safely use water you find. And don’t forget water for your house pets too!
