He’s standing in front of Station 5 on Northwest Ave during its construction. The station opened on May 10, 1971, nearly 55 years ago! It's still in use today and houses a three-person crew, the city's ladder truck, and an ambulance.

Yesterday, 20 Bellingham firefighters participated in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Firefighter Stairclimb in Seattle. As a team, we placed 8th overall out of 191 teams, a fantastic achievement. Climbing 69 flights of stairs in full gear is no small feat, but it pales in comparison to what cancer patients and survivors endure every day. Six of our firefighters have spent the past several weeks in our Fire Officer's Academy developing the skills to be leaders in our department. This week they spent a day in Maple Ridge, Canada performing live fire scenarios.
