Sponsor a Tree

Trees play an important role in Bellingham’s continually growing park system. They are landmarks that give each park a unique identity, mark the seasons, provide habitat, combat climate change, and provide shade to sit and play under for generations to come. What could be more special that planting a tree to honor someone or to celebrate a milestone?

Sponsoring a tree is simple:

1. Location

We are currently only accepting tree donations at parks or open space locations where our Urban Forestry staff has determined there is a need for more trees.

2. Application

Fill out and submit a donation application. Within 45 days of receiving your application, an Urban Forestry staff member will contact you about your desired location and will review the best options for tree species in that location. Please review the Park Donations and Memorials Policy before submitting your application.

3. Payment

Once you have a confirmed tree type and location, our staff will send you payment instructions for your donation. Tree donations are $400.00.

4. Planting

Although we accept tree sponsorships year-round, trees will only be planted in the fall, winter or spring to give the trees the best chance to thrive. New trees will have approximately a 2.5″ trunk circumference at the time of planting. Our staff will reach out to you to let you know the scheduled planting time and location. You are welcome to be present during the planting and even help plant the tree if you’d like!

5. Recognition

After your tree is planted, you will receive a donation certificate with a photo of the planted tree and a map of the location.

Additional Information:

Sometimes trees do not survive due to extreme weather conditions, pests, or vandalism. The Parks Department will replace any sponsored trees that are vandalized or do not survive within the first three years of planting.

No plaques or identifying markers will be installed with a donated tree.
