Community volunteers have been hard at work in our parks during our winter planting season! In the second half of February, 135 incredible volunteers improved the health of our forest understory and trailside habitat at Cornwall Park and Hundred Acre Wood by removing a total of 17 cubic yards of invasive weeds, spreading 33 cubic yards of mulch, and planting 247 native shrubs and trees. In total, over the past couple of weeks, volunteers spent 405 hours restoring our parks. We are very grateful to everyone supporting our stewardship efforts. Special thanks to Woods Coffee for the delicious coffee and to Whatcom Land Trust for helping at our Hundred Acre Wood volunteer work party! ☕ ♥️
Interested in joining us for our next Community Work Parties? The first 2 Saturdays in March, we`ll be focusing on putting more than 6,000 seedlings into pots at our Native Plant Nursery. On Saturday, March 21st, we`ll be joined by our friends at NSEA as we plant native pollinator-friendly shrubs near the Mayflower Bridge crossing over Whatcom Creek. And on March 28th, we`ll work to remove invasive English Holly from the urban forest in Lowell Park!
